Position Overview:

Palo Alto County Health System (PACHS) is seeking a detail-oriented Patient Financial Services Representative to join our Business Office team. This role is responsible for billing insurance payers and self-pay accounts, ensuring accurate and timely claims processing, and maximizing reimbursement for services provided. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, knowledge of medical billing practices, and a commitment to excellent customer service.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify and scan patient identification data for billing preparation.
  • Submit accurate claims to payers electronically using claim scrubber and editing software.
  • Access payer systems (FISS, C-SNAP) to correct claims and respond to development requests.
  • Investigate and report payer denials/non-covered charges for compliance.
  • Download and process remittance advice, prepare deposits, and balance receipts.
  • Resolve patient inquiries regarding billing and insurance coverage.
  • Sort and distribute incoming mail; prepare and deliver outgoing mail and deposits.
  • Complete audit reports prior to annual audit.
  • Maintain accurate patient billing records and update information as needed.
  • Perform additional duties such as petty cash management, Medicaid billing, and pharmacy charge entry as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1-year post-secondary education in business or secretarial program preferred.
  • Courses in business and medical terminology desirable.

Preferred Experience:

  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in medical insurance billing, Medicare/Medicaid guidelines.
  • Previous billing experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of medical billing processes and payer rules.
  • High-level computer proficiency and ability to work with multiple systems.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer relations and resolve complex issues.
